Tips for Teenage Sleep
Some handy sleep tips for teenagers.
Teenage sleep has been in the news. Some fascinating research from the US found that a later starting time at school lead to a universal improvement in grades. Parents even stated that their teenagers were easier to live with! Although this is unlikely to be widely implemented in Australia anytime soon there are a number of ways to help improve your teen’s sleep.
Sleep is vital for health, growth and learning. If your teen is struggling with sleep, talk to your doctor.
- Aim for lights out between 9.45 and 10:30pm
- Get homework done early
- Avoid all screens (yes even smart phones) for an hour prior to lights out
- Engage in relaxing activities such as reading a book or listening to music in the hour before bed.
- Switch off phones overnight and remove from room – no midnight texting!
- Exercise regularly and aim for a balanced diet
